Jack
Roush first entered
the world of motorsports
while working for the
Ford Motor Company.
Roush joined a drag-racing
group, “The Fastbacks,” and
soon left Ford to dedicate
his time to auto racing.
A few years later, “The
Fastbacks” disbanded,
allowing Roush to form
another partnership,
this time with Wayne
Gapp. The duo won Pro
Stock events in the NHRA,
IHRA and AHRA. Six years
later, Roush and Gapp
parted ways and Jack
Roush formed Jack Roush
Performance Engineering.
With this new venture,
Roush halted his involvement
in drag racing and concentrated
primarily on building
engines for race teams.
In the years following,
Roush became involved
with GTX and GTP cars
and road racing, where
he enjoyed much success,
winning his first manufacturer’s
title.
In 1988, Jack Roush entered the NASCAR Winston Cup scene, forming his first team with driver Mark Martin. The following season, Roush and Martin scored their first Winston Cup victory. Since that time, Roush has expanded his NASCAR team to include five Nextel Cup teams, two Craftsman Truck Series teams, and the new Pennzoil Busch team. In 1999, Roush marked a career milestone, earning his 200th victory. The 2003 season proved to mark another career milestone, as Jack Roush finally won the NASCAR Winston Cup Series Championship with driver Matt Kenseth. To date, Roush has earned 66 Winston Cup wins, placing the team fifth in all-time career wins. |
